Mandy Oliphant – England

Mandy has always had a love of nature and when she completed a degree in Fine Art followed by an MA in Art as Environment, an understanding as to why her practice is so rooted within Art and Ecology was transparent. It is about forming a new vocabulary that reveals and renews our kinship with the natural world. Exposing elements of the natural world that every day, go unnoticed, this is at the core of her practice. Sourcing materials and inspiration is a daily ritual, almost becoming all consuming, and to understand this need can only be resolved in the art of making and sharing.

Some of  Mandy’s works remain permanent and others become transient within the environment they occupy, depending on what medium she is working in. For her, the landscape is not clearly seen or understood until it has been exposed through manipulation, often using layering techniques and different processes. When painting, she aims to draw attention to elements of the environment, hopefully giving nature a true value.

Mandy has been making art for over a decade, going back to art after living abroad and raising a family. Two years ago she made a decision to concentrate on painting in oils, putting aside other materials, and it is only now that she craves to get back into working ‘with’ nature, rummaging outdoors, working outdoors.
